2025 Product Photography Trend predictions

As we come to the end of another great year of photography, it’s time for us to look ahead and make our predictions for Product Photography Trends in 2025!

This year our studio was full of colour, with bold block colour backdrops and hard light proving popular, and AI tools really started to come into their own during post production photo editing.

So what do we think will change for next year?

1. Colour of the Year

Pantone’s ‘Colour of the Year’ is always an interesting place to start.

2025 sees ‘Mocha Mousse’ take over from 2024’s ‘Peach Fuzz’, with Pantone saying the colour captures a ‘Global Mood of Connection, Comfort, and Harmony’.

This indicates a steer away from the bright, bold photography backdrops that were popular this year, and a turn towards something a little deeper, warmer and more luxurious.

The brown tones could work well with some retro 70’s styling!

2. Colour Clash

Stepping away from the colour blocking that’s dominated product photography for the last few years, a clash of bold colours and patterns is moving in.

Maximalist set-ups with high contrast and clashing colours - think Charlie XCX’s iconic ‘brat’ artwork with some bold patterns thrown in - will create punchy photography backdrops.

3. AI Assisted Post Production

AI technology is developing at lightning speed, and we don’t expect to see this slowing down any time soon. We predict that our image editing and post production work will be heavily assisted by AI, with tools such as generative fill already becoming commonplace.

While it still has a way to go before we can rely on it completely, it’s already revolutionized the way we edit our photography and we’re certain this will continue throughout 2025 and beyond!

4. Human Touch

While we acknowledge that AI is here to stay, we also predict a subtle rejection of this over the next year or so. Particularly the heavily edited digital look that sometimes results from it’s use in photography.

We expect to see a demand for more ‘real’ creative content, with more human elements.

We predict that digital and real-life creatives will come together in a ‘scrapbook’ style aesthetic. Human elements such as illustrations and doodles can be applied over the top of modern, clean product photography to create a fun, playful image.

We could also see the use of real life scenes like hand painted murals and graffiti becoming photo backdrops for products, to keep that human element throughout brand imagery. Lucky for us our Bristol based studio is in prime position for this kind of photography!

5. New Vs Old

Following on from our prediction of a gentle rejection of the ultra-modern, we’re expecting nostalgia to be a big theme in product photography styling next year.

We might see a juxtaposition of modern and retro nostalgia aesthetics.

This trend was picked up on in Adobe’s 2025 Creative Trends forecast too. They pointed out two key trends for next year - ‘Fantastic Frontiers’ and ‘Time Warp’.

‘Fantastic Frontiers’ is all about digital worlds, modern visuals with heavy editing and ai input, giving photography a slightly magical, unreel feel.

‘Time Warp’ blends this with more vintage elements, from the roaring 20s to swinging 70s, to give a nostalgic yet fresh vibe to product photography.

6. Inclusivity

For product photography shoots involving models, we hope and expect to see a continued commitment to inclusivity.

This should in no way just be a trend, but a continuation of increased representation of diverse models of all genders, races, ages and body types.

7. Sustainability and a Natural Look

While this isn’t a new trend, we expect to see the ‘natural’ aesthetic continue throughout 2025, with brands keen to show their sustainability credentials through their product photography.

Natural, earthy textures and materials such as wood, stone and fresh greenery with neutral backdrops will be prominent, particularly with beauty and wellness products.

8. Motion

In a world of fast-moving visual media, a still image won’t always cut it.

We predict that moving images will continue to steal the show, particularly online, with short video clips, gifs and stop-motion animation remaining popular.
